Animal Husbandry

This is the commercial property that will be used for our farm stand and commercial kitchen.  No animals are planned for this property, except what shoes up from the wildlife arena.  These include:

  • Bees, bumble and really small bees that love our flowers.
  • Hummingbirds
  • Praying mantis
  • Worms for compost
  • Other insects
  • Koi pond is being planned and will be used for growing greens and flowers.

  • We use honeybees for pollinating the crops.
    • The right to keep bees is protected under the Tennessee State Apiary Act of 1995.
    • Our bees are registered with the State of Tennessee.
    • Our bees have been inspected by the State of Tennessee.  October 2017.
  • Honey supply is limited for 2018.  We lost 3 of our hives and will build up our bee population throughout the year.
  • Hummingbirds
  • Two koi ponds.  The fish were already on the property when we took over, but starting in spring, they are going to be put to work in an aquaponics system.
  • Chickens for their compost.
    • Our chickens have a permit through Knoxville Animal Control.  Yearly fee is $25.
  • Rabbits for their compost.
