Pest Control and Disease Management

These are our 2018 proposed pest integrated management and disease management plans.  Please note these have not been tested in our gardens yet and we may have to make adjustments.

REMOVE WEAK PLANTS

If a weak plant is attracting pests, it will be removed.

NATURAL PREVENTATIVE MEASURES (USING PLANTS)

  • Ageratum
  • Marigold
  • Lavender
  • Basil (globe)
  • Camomile

  • Daisies
  • Fennel
  • Garlic
  • Geraniums, lemon
  • Horsemint

  • Lemon balm
  • Lemon geranium (plant with grapes)
  • Lemon thyme
  • Marigolds/French, African, pot marigold, calendula (single flowered varieties and allow it to go to seed) – bees like these (rabbits don’t like this)

BACTERIAL WILT

(Spread by cucumber beetles)

We do not have a treatment planned at this time.

CUCUMBER BEETLE

Plant a circle of radishes around each cucumber plant. Don’t harvest the radishes. Instead, let them go to seed. The radishes will help protect against cucumber Beatles.

DOWNY MILDEW

10 drops horsetail (or chives) extract to 32 oz water. Put in sprayer.

FIRE ANTS

1 1/2 oz. Madina Orange Oil
3 oz. Dawn liquid soap
1 gallon water

Mix well.
Drench the mound.

FLEA BEETLES

Plant catnip among the collards, kales, cabbages, broccoli, etc.

MOSAIC VIRUS

We do not have a treatment planned at this time.

POWDERY MILDEW

1 1/2 to 3 Tbsp. baking soda
1 Tbsp. Murphy’s Oil soap
1 gallon water
Shake well.
Spray under and on leaves in the early morning so the sun can dry them through the morning.

SPIDER MITES

2 Tbs Murphy’s Soap
1/2 Tsp Tabasco Sauce
8 Oz. Water
